An Eventful Day!

J and I have been looking into cloth diapering and, after doing all of the research, decided that the best approach would be to go to a local place and actually hear about/look at/feel the different options. We did that this morning, and we are sold! We're so excited about a decision that feels so silly to be excited about. We're starting out pretty simple since newborns are so tiny (for the most part, lol) with pre-folds and diaper covers. We got our first stash of pre-folds, some cloth wipes, diaper cream that's okay to use on cloth diapers, and one, itsy-bitsy, adorable cover. I can't wait to get more! We still need to make a decision on what we'll advance to when he's about 3 months, but we've got plenty of time for that!

Also, we have a nursery!! We finally went and picked up all of our furniture today! It's all unloaded and unwrapped in his room- no scratches, dents, or any of that. J will probably be putting the crib together in the next week and then we can really start decorating! My mom's making our crib bedding, and she showed us the quilt top that she has finished. It's so cute and colorful! Once she finishes actually quilting that, then she'll get going on the fitted sheets, crib skirt, and window valence. We made all the final fabric decisions today. It's such a relief having the furniture at home and makes this start feeling a lot more real than it has been.

I'd like to add a little shout-out to the Houston GP girls that were all at our GTG Friday: Insy, Kismet, Lemon, and ZAngel! It was so much fun meeting you all, and I'm looking forward to next time!

20 weeks!!

Halfway! I can hardly even believe it!

How far along? 20 weeks!
Total weight gain/loss: 6lb as of my last appointment
How much does Baby weigh?: 10-11 ounces
Maternity clothes? Definitely for bottoms, although I do have a few stretch pants/shorts that still work. I'm still doing okay with shirts, but I've had to incorporate a few of my maternity shirts in to replace those that don't fit anymore.
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: It's been alright. Not bad but not great.
Best moment this week: finding out it's a HE
Movement: Oh yes. He's quite an active little fellow. After sitting for awhile, he usually starts practicing his dance moves.
Food cravings: none
Gender: BOY!
Labor Signs: Nope
Belly Button in or out? Innie, but it's starting to look wierd.
What I miss: sleeping on my back
What I am looking forward to: actually starting to look pregnant no matter what I wear. I'm growing weary of this awkward middle phase.
Milestones: finding out it's a boy, feeling/seeing him kicking (both me and J!), registering, and Jeffrey's first 4th of July! Phew.

My Baby

By now your baby looks like a mini-version of what he'll look like when he's born. All his facial features are formed and hair is growing on his head. He's even acting like a baby and will occasionally suck his thumb or yawn. Aww ...

Baby's heartbeat is getting stronger and can be heard using a good old-fashioned stethoscope. Ask for a listen at your next prenatal visit! Fetal bone marrow starts making blood cells—previously done by the liver and spleen. This may not sound that exciting, but it's good news.

The amniotic fluid that has been cushioning your little bean now serves another purpose: Your baby uses it to "practice" chowing down. Yes, it sounds gross (as many aspects of pregnancy do), but it's an important step for your baby toward being able to chow down in the real world. Your baby has been swallowing amniotic fluid for a while now, but now the intestines are finally developed enough that he's absorbing small amounts of sugars from it. And let's face it, being able to effectively digest sugar is important at every stage of life.

Your baby now weighs between 10 and 11 ounces and is approximately 7 inches long—the size of a delicious, cold, frothy bottle of root beer. Float anyone?
